The sound of chestnuts being roasted may sound crude, yet delicate. When I was small, my mother liked to bring roasted chestnuts home, but I didn’t like them — I guess because it was troublesome to crack them open. Now, though, I’ve started reminiscing on the variety of local snacks from the past.
